In this article we historically reconstruct the institutionalization of Physical Education (EF) in Argentina since the 1950s. To do this, we return to the origins of the EF careers within the framework of two “traditional” national universities such as La Plata and Tucumán, its outgoing features, main actors and training profiles, and then stop at the EF of the National University of La Plata (UNLP). The analysis is based on secondary sources, interviews and the founding act, to replenish the different
positions of the actors, and the problem of their relevance, relevance and legitimacy. This reconstruction will allow us to understand how this problem was processed at the UNLP in the context of the creation of the race in the 50’s of the 20th century
