This article analyzes the historical evolution of Argentine private universities with special reference to the last decades. Its relevant recent expansion is analyzed and it is highlighted that the explicit quality controls existing in the country have generated a system of superior quality to those existing in the other countries of the region that have followed models of "demand absorption" with almost exclusive weight Of teaching programs. The experience of these decades indicates that private universities have been able to survive in periods of global economic crisis to expand in times of economic boom, and that these trends tend to be maintained
