Abstract

This article reviews, in a non-exhaustive but broadly representative sample, the processes of mutation or institutional transformation that Argentine universities have experienced from the beginning of the Argentine university system to the present day. It also shows the capacity for change and resilience of the institutions to stay alive by overcoming political transformations of the
State, making adaptations to its legal nature, modifying its public or private nature, its jurisdiction, and even undergoing mergers or divisions. Additionally, it seeks to identify general trends in these transformation processes and their possible causes, that in some cases concurrently happens with the creation of new universities
